How hockey needs a running brain!

All over the India the people are crazy about cricket, nothing bad about it but i dont know why cricket feels like a government job for me, especially test cricket five days work, lunch time, tea time, 8 hour job…. all like a job not a sport… I feel Hockey is far more faster and need constant running game, its unexpected, it needs move and it finishes in just 70 minutes… what about skills in both the games? you’ve seen sachin tendulkar’s god like back-foot straight punch down the ground but just see this hockey… isn’t it amazing?

Yes, a woman! picture this, a woman calls a police officer in police station and says ” can you help me?” having woman on the other side of the phone the tone of policeman automatically becomes softest, she then adds ” I wanna make a complaint” the sense of duty suddenly goes up in his heart suddenly when woman says ” my heart is burning, can you extinguish that” stumled policeman asks the ‘madame’ to be bit clear on her complaint she again says ” my heart is burning, can you extiguish that” the smile of policeman’s face disappears with his sense of duty and now he tries to scold the woman, the woman the gives him a beautiful abuse and says now I dont know how will you do it but do it… soon  I will try to post the video of the whole story “Dil ki aag bujha do”

Amma by Aalok

We’ve talked about Maa, by Nida Fazli but mother is not just one peom, a beautiful expression of mother and motherhood is brilliantly told as a tale by my friend and popular poet (still young!) Aalok Shrivastav. He’s given a reason to every son and daughter of the world to be proud of his/her mother in his peom Amma… here is his and all of ours Amma for all of you…

Chintan, darshan, jeevan, sarjan, rooh, nazar par chhai amma
saare ghar ka shor-sharaba, soona-pan, tanhai amma

saare rishte, jeth-dupahari, garm-hawa, aatish, angare
jharna, dariya, jheel, samandar, bheeni si purwai amma

ghar mein jheene rishte maine laakhon baar udhadte dekhe
chupke-chupke kar deti hai jaane kab turpai amma

usne khud ko khokar mujhmein ek naya aakaar liya hai
dharti, ambar, aag, hawa, jal jaisi hi sachchai amma

baabu ji guzre, aapas mein sab cheezein taqseem huin, tab-
main ghar mein sabse chhota thha, mere hisse aai amma

Most Beautiful Word, Maa

Hindi and Urdu language has many beautiful words, and for me most beautiful of them is Maa. Nida Fazli has paid tribute to every Mother in the word through his Nazm Maa, I am reproducing the ”Maa”

Besan ki sondhi roti par
Khatti chatni jaisi maa
Yaad aati hai chauka-baasan
Chimta phukani jaisi maa

Baans ki khurri khaat ke oopar
Har aahat par kaan dhare
Aadhi soyee aadhi jaagi
Thaki dopahari jaisi maa

Chirdiyon ke chahakaar mein gunjey
Raadha-mohan ali-ali
Murghe ki awaaz se khulti
Ghar ki kundi jaisi maa

Biwi, beti, behan, pardosan
Thordi thordi si sab mein
Din bhar ek rassi ke oopar
Chalati natni jaisi maa

Baant ke apna chehra, maatha,
Aankhien jaane kahaan ga-yin
Phatey puraane ek album mein
Chanchal lardki jaisi maa

Chennai Veer than Dynamos

Spanish international Albert Casas transformed beleaguered Chennai Veerans into an impressive unit on Wednesday, cracking a 47 th minute goal to help them past Chandigarh Dynamos in the Premier Hockey League at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium.

Casas’ stunning strike turned a lifeless match into an absorbing contest, and ended 1-0 in favour of Chennai Veerans, who had lost their last two matches conceding eight goals. With the local team floundering in the Chennai leg, it took the arrival of Casas to inject enthusiasm in the home crowd. The Spaniard, in fact, reached the city on Wednesday morning, but showed no sign of travel fatigue.

Twelve minutes into the second half, Casas was set up by midfielder Somanna in the striking circle and unleashed a powerful reverse hit that goalkeeper Baljit Singh could only be a spectator to. The goal transformed a dull, uneventful match into a combative encounter, with both teams launching one attack after another, but the score remained unchanged until the final hooter.

Until half-time, however, the match showed no hint of the events to come. Neither team got a clear look at the goal, but the Veerans showed more initiative, thanks to Casas, Md Zubair and Raja upfront. In the midfield, Somanna and Pawal Lakra held their own against their opposite numbers Ravipal Singh and Sajjad Anwar.

Dynamos, despite the presence of Prabhjot Singh, Rajpal Singh and Inderjit in the forward line, could just not get into attacking rhythm. Only later, when Deepak Thakur entered the fray, did they string some attacks together and trouble the Veerans. But Raghunath, Muthu Selvan and Vikramjit Singh in the defence held tight, and even three successive penalty corners for the Dynamos late in the first half could not produce a goal, with Jugraj Singh’s drag flicks posing no problems.

With Albert’s goal in the 47th minute, the match sprung to life. Veerans suddenly looked more dangerous, with Raja cutting in time and again and harassing the Dynamos, and Casas and Somanna coming up with neat combinations along the right.

At the other end, Prabhjot was set up by Dutchman Bomans Balder, but his reverse hit was kept away by goalkeeper Shreejesh. The goal-keeper was declared ‘Lion of the match’ for coming to his team’s rescue every time the defence faltered. In the 51 st minute Dynamos earned their fourth penalty corner, but again Jugraj Singh’s low flick was kept out by Shreejesh.

Veerans nearly made it 2-0 in the 60th minute. Albert Casas made another good run into the striking circle and earned a penalty corner. Raghunath’s drag flick beat the defence and the goalkeeper, but slammed against the left post.

With time running out for the Dynamos, their captain Rajpal Singh played a desperate if lone hand upfront. Unable to strike incisive combinations with Deepak Thakur or Prabhjot, Rajpal tried his best to keep up the pressure, but the Veerans’ defence was too good on the day to be dented.

Veerans’ coach Md Riaz praised new arrival Casas and his combination with Somanna. “We changed our formation today. We kept shuffling our forwards… overall, our control and finishing was very good,” Riaz said.

Veerans now have six points from four matches, while Dynamos continue to languish with two from four.

Result: Chennai Veerans bt Chandigarh Dynamos 1-0 (Albert Casas 47th minute)

PC: Dynamos: 33rd, 34th, 34th, 51st

Being English

flintoff-16-jan-2007.jpgBeing English is one of the most difficult thing in world, you need to be advance and modern in your attitude as well as you have to bear the tag of “Gentleman” throughout your life, American girls may fall for your accent but you are not supposed to shout or abuse in public because of you being english. Same thing happened with england’ s cricket team who is down under right now.  I am sure they wanted to cry after the humiliating whitewash of Ashes but for english people, Boys Dont Cry . England tasted their first victory on Aussie soil this season but that too on Black Cap New Zealand. The one-day of Hobart was more of England’s attempt to gain bit of the confidence as they could not win even a single match or moment since they lost to Australia’s Prime Minister XI. Australian Prime Minister John Howard is a great cricket fan but that doesn’t mean they will build strongest cricket team for him, England was nowhere near to there rivals but now when the rival is different the result is also different. To be true england didn’t won the match all over, there were not enough runs on the board, there run rate was like a snail even in last overs and black caps almost succeeded in keeping Freddy Flintoff away from the strike. England has finally won a match but I am sure they are not going to be satisfied with the only win on the tour, they certainly will try to win from now onwards so that they can remain English.

Maratha without Warriors, and Orissa “Steeled” the show

phl.jpgDhanraj Pillay was finally not somewhere in the scene this time, quoted as India’s one of the best striker who also did playmaker role nicely was at last not in the hockey field. Last time he played hard but could not stop his team to hit rock bottom, a broken player who was more a victim of administrator than of time or luck is missing this time around, dont worry Dhanraj our administrator are doing their best to kill few more talents, incidently one is you former Maratha team warrior Viren Rasquinha, who was at the recieving end of IHF’s sommersaults just before Asian Games. Viren looks rock solid in defence, more than that he puts his effort in the team and dive of the artificial grass well. Enough about player now abt PHL III. Shivendra is in good form for last few months he showed same in chennai too, although the match between Warriors and Shers  went in extra-time but it was hard for Shers not conciedind goals for whole 70 minutes, Gagan should take voluntery retirement now from the scene, how long will it take to drown his great father Ajit Singh’s name. He doesn’t look atheletic and playes hockey like chess, not because he playes with brain but because he plays a total individual game. Maratha team is a threat to any good team this year, they have Adam Sinclair and will have strikers from Pak in the later edition. Shers used their body more than sticks, chandigarh did it too in their game, so are we going to see WWF in hockey field soon, any way atlast Maratha won, because Shivendra striked, and Shers los because they didn’t strike at all.

Scoreline: Maratha Warriors 1 – 0 Sher-e-Jalandhar

Orrisa have much stronger team that any edition, great Indian Wall is on their side this year and will get arrows of Adnan from Pak later on,  Chandigarh Dynamos… aah what to say about them? they will learn hockey quickly I guess…

Scoreline: Orissa Steelers 1 – 0 Chandigarh Dynamos

Day of Killer Cats

phl.jpgChennai saw better of killer cats, Sher-e-Jalandhar and Banglore Lions both winning but in low scoring ties, Shers from Jalandhar were bit different from last edition, Gagan Ajit knows back-flick good, but I sometimes feel is it the only thing he knows at all, his acceleration is like old indian Luna mopeds, he is no longer nimble and clever in field and his attitude is as public as birthday of Amitabh Bachchan, he can play reverse flick to even penalty stroke, his penalty stroke was more looking like as if he was trying to hit Goalie Baljit Singh, I wonder whether he can net the ball even if there is no goal-keeper at all. God save Jarnail Singh who produced only goal of the tie that too from Penalty Corner. Changarh Dynamo looked Physically Fit, physically because Jugraj Singh tried to show that his shoulders have more power than his stick. Anyway Jugraj may be umpires are not watching you but ESPN has invested crores to make sure people are.

 Score Line Sher 1 – 0 Dynamos

Shakal looking Len Aiyappa is a nice humble man, but he never let his heart overshadow his drag-flicks, he creates speed, and that was done to Adrian D’Souza Adrian is if not world’s best but surely one of the best goalie in the business. No less than half-a-dozen close opportunities went abegging as the Warriors began their domination midway through the first quarter. There were a few others which were on target but they had to contend with a rock called Bharat Chetri, the Bangalore Lions goalkeeper who had an outstanding match.
Lions started off with a bang, using their attacking instincts to good effect. Pakistan’s Rehan Butt, Sandeep Michael and Tushar Khandekar were all over the rival area, probing and attempting to open up the defence. By the 13th minute, the Lions were up by a goal, Len converting their second penalty corner. The goal buttressed the loss of Ignace Tirkey, who had to beat a hasty retreat in the very first minute after suffering a blow to the knee. He did not take the field again. This had an adverse effect on the midfield. And, it was only a matter of time before the Warriors took over. With Lions’ Vinay fumbling on the right, Warriors first aimed at the goal via Shivender. His attempt came off the upright but Gurbaj got the rebound to send home a thunderous shot. Warriors forced six penalty corners to Lions five. The percentage of exchanges was much the same till that decisive moment during extra time when Hari was dispossessed by Rasquinha. The penalty corner that followed was Len Aiyappa’s for the asking.

Final Scoreline -  2 – 1 Warriors
